Springfield signing choir performs for Aurora Fashions

Wed, 17 Dec 2014

Aurora fashions, based in Stanton Harcourt, have been working really hard this year to raise money for Springfield School (almost £7,000 so far!) and we thought it was about time we said a proper thank you! So, in a convoy of 4 minibuses we travelled to Aurora Fashions head office and performed a medley of Christmas songs twice to a packed out canteen both times!

Between sets some of our Key Stage 4 pupils sold mince pies they'd made in food technology class to raise extra funds and Aurora had also organised a Christmas raffle with some wonderful prizes with all proceeds coming to the school too. It was a lovely atmosphere with pupils singing and signing beautifully and the audience joining in too.

Chief Conductor, Sue Calcutt, even managed to teach the audience how to sign 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'!

We'd like to thank Aurora Fashions for inviting us and we look forward to performing for them again next year! ;-)

Shrek gets a Springfield makeover!

Wed, 17 Dec 2014

Forget Broadway, forget The Strand, you can even forget Hollywood - the ONLY place to be last Wednesday (10th December) was at The Bronze Barrow where Springfield School performed Shrek as their Christmas performance. There were laughs, there were cheers and there were some real star performers!

KS4 opened the show

It was a fabulous afternoon and the pupils all performed brilliantly.

Oh and, of course, there were some staff members in very silly costumes!

Carterton Lions donate money to buy literacy resources

Wed, 3 Dec 2014

We were delighted to wlecome the President of the Carterton Lions Club, John Radburn, to the school this morning as they made us a generous donation to buy a story sack literacy resource. The Club wanted to acknowledge the work Springfield does with pupils that attend from its district and thought a contribution towards a story sack resource would be useful. Springfield secondary pupils, Bethany and Joshua, took official receipt of the cheque and thanked the Lions on behalf of the school.

Springfield signing choir performs at The Big Sing

Wed, 3 Dec 2014

On Tuesday 2nd December members of the Springfield signing choir performed in Oxford Town Hall at the 7th annual Big Sing. The event is organised by Christian Aid in Oxford in partnership with the Oxfordshire County Music Service.  There was just time for a quick rehearsal before the auditorium started to fill up...

Then the waiting began...

Charlie, Matthew and Emily wait...

Tom waits...

Finally it was time for the big performance. The pupils performed brilliantly and really enjoyed the event. Springfield was one of about 20 schools taking part and it was fantastic to see all their hard work and practice pay off. Well done to the signing choir and well done to the teachers and staff who made it all possible - in particular Sue, Val and Claire.
