British Values

British Values

At Springfield School we value the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all pupils and families within our community and undertake a variety of events and lessons to celebrate these. We have found this approach to be enriching for all parties as it teaches tolerance and respect for the differences in our community and the wider world.

British Values are defined into four areas:

  • Democracy
  • The Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths, beliefs and for those without faith

Springfield’s values tree identifies the specific values that are promoted across the whole school community. These values cover areas of spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development and the fundamental British Values of:

  • Democracy
  • The rule of law
  • Individual liberty
  • Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith

All education settings have a responsibility to ensure children learn right from wrong, mix and share with other children and value other’s views, know about similarities and differences between themselves and others and challenge negative attitudes and stereotypes (in an age-appropriate way).

All our staff support the children’s personal, social and emotional development by helping them to:

  • develop a positive sense of themselves and others
  • form positive relationships and develop respect for others
  • develop social skills
  • learn how to manage their feelings
  • understand appropriate behaviour in groups
  • have confidence in their own abilities
